Learn how to Zoom Text in Adobe Premiere Pro to make the text prime point of interest for viewers plus add motion and energy to videos to prevent them from feeling flat
If you’re like me and love creating videos that stand out, learning how to make text zoom in Adobe Premiere Pro is a must! Premiere Pro is one of the best video editing tools for adding cool effects, and the zoom-in text effect is one of my favorites. It’s clean, professional, and super easy to pull off. Let me walk you through how to do this in just five steps. We also have a number of free premiere pro templates here to help make it easier to add text to the videos.
Depending on the context and creative objectives, the act of zooming in on text in a video can serve a number of functions. Focusing in on the text makes it the prime point of interest for viewers. And when it comes to making a title, announcement, or key message, this is a technique that extends to give added emphasis. In a word, it's eye-catching. Adding motion and energy to videos can prevent them from feeling flat, especially in fast-paced or promotional situations. Keeping the content visually appealing is key. Adding texture or just a little distraction can heighten the viewer's sense of being present with the video.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro and navigate to the Essential Graphics panel, which is located under the "Window" menu. Here is where you will input your text. Select the Text tool (shortcut: T) and click on the program monitor. If you want to say something, type it out. For instance, if you're introducing yourself, you could type, "Welcome!" In the Essential Graphics workspace, you can set the font, size, color, and alignment to match your style. This is where Premiere Pro really lets you take control. You can make everything just the way you want it.
Position your text skillfully. It is now time to put your text where you want it. Ok, so head over to the Effect Controls area and find the Motion settings. Here, you’ll tweak the Position to make sure your text lands in just the right spot—like centered for that big impact. This step is super easy but makes your video editing process in Premiere Pro feel really smooth.
Add the Zoom Animation Alright, here’s where it gets fun: animation time! In the Effect Controls section, look for Scale under Motion. Move that playhead to where you want your zoom to kick off. Click on that little stopwatch icon next to Scale to pop in a keyframe. Set your starting scale value small, like maybe 0% or 50%, depending on how dramatic you’re going for with this zoom. Slide that playhead forward and drop another keyframe with what will be your final scale value (usually around 100%). This is basically how you get a text animation in Premiere Pro looking awesome.
Smooth It Out with Keyframe Adjustments You’re not quite done yet. If you're aiming for an animation that's smooth (and not all jerky), Ease In and Ease Out are what you'll need. Right-click those keyframes and pick these options. It adds more of a natural flow to your zoom-in effect. This is kind of a neat Premiere Pro trick that makes text effects seem pro-level.
Add a Finishing Touch Now then, if you're wanting to up the effect even more, toss in some extras: Turn on Frame Blending by right-clicking on your text layer. This adds motion blur which makes the zoom look even more natural. You can also head over to Effects and drag something like Gaussian Blur onto it—to soften those edges while it's zooming in. These are my go-to moves for making any video editing project in Premiere Pro come out looking polished.
